Abstract

Buildings with mixed-material structural systems that combine concrete walls and steel frames have become increasingly prevalent in New Zealand due to their efficiency and economy. While connection detailing is recognised as critical for the performance of buildings, guidelines on mixed-material systems and connections are lacking. To address this gap, a study was conducted on concrete wall-steel beam bolted web plate connections through experimental tests and numerical modelling. Key findings from the study will be discussed during this session, followed by a series of design recommendations for concrete wall-steel beam bolted web plate connections based on study findings and capacity design principles.

Biography

Claire Pascua is a graduate engineer at Holmes, currently based in Wellington, where she works on design and construction monitoring of infrastructure such as wharves and bridges. Claire is also a PhD candidate under examination at The University of Auckland, where her research is focused on concrete wall-steel beam connections.
