Abstract

The TH01 Carpark is a landmark project for Auckland International Airport and the wider community. This presentation will showcase the design and construction of the driven timber pile foundation system, reinforced concrete shear walls, and the post-tensioned flooring system that together form the backbone of this major project.

Biographies

Andrew Gaul

Andrew is a Chartered Engineer and Technical Director at BGT Structures Ltd., responsible for leading the company’s technical operations. With over 12 years of post-graduate experience in civil and structural engineering, he brings extensive knowledge across a wide range of building projects.

Since joining BGT Structures, Andrew has developed a strong focus on building structures, gaining design experience on key projects throughout Auckland and seeing them through the full project lifecycle — from concept and detailed design through to construction completion.

He is particularly passionate about improving engineering workflows, fostering innovation, ensuring technical accuracy, and leveraging technology to deliver smarter, more efficient solutions.

Joe Paul

Joe is a Senior Structural Engineer at Edge Consulting Engineers with over 10 years of experience, specialising in structural engineering. His extensive portfolio includes a diverse range of building projects across New Zealand and overseas. This global exposure has shaped his ability to deliver innovative and practical engineering solutions tailored to local conditions.

Joe is a strong advocate for concrete structures, particularly prestressed concrete - a material he actively incorporates into his designs to optimise structural performance, efficiency, and sustainability. His technical expertise and forward-thinking approach have contributed to the successful delivery of complex projects across the commercial, residential, and healthcare sectors.
